There are many tourist spots around Kenrokuen. For making memories of your trip, there are many popular sightseeing spots near the ryokan, such as Takachiho sightseeing, Mt. Yukine, and Kitaura Marine Diver. Please go sightseeing as a memory of your trip.

Imayama
It is said that Nobeoka’s oldest temple was built in 717, the legend of Jofuku’s Horai remains, and at the top there is the tallest (17m) statue of Kobo Daishi in Japan. The Daishi Festival, said to be one of the three major spring festivals in Kyushu, is held in April, and Toka Ebisu is held in February.
Shiroyama
This modern castle was built by Motane Takahashi, the first lord of the Nobeoka domain, and is the setting for the Tenkaichi Takigi Noh performance in early October against the backdrop of the 22m-high stone wall that killed thousands of people. Shiroyama’s bells and camellias are the highlights, making it a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.
Atagoyama
It is a mountain with an altitude of 251m, and from the observation deck at the top you can see the city and the Hyuga-nada Sea, and it has been selected as a Japan night view heritage site (the only one in Miyazaki prefecture). It has been called Kasasa since ancient times, and there is a legend that Ninigino no Mikoto and Princess Konohana Sakuya met and got married.
Sumie Coast
A swimming beach selected as one of Japan’s 88 Best Bathing Beaches. It is a comprehensive leisure facility that includes “Beach Forest Sumie” with play equipment, a campground, sports facilities, and a family aquarium. There are beach soccer and music events, and you can also try your hand at seine fishing.
Urashiro Coast

Shimoaso Beach
This beautiful Shirahama beach has been selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Kyushu by the Ministry of the Environment.
It is a leisure facility with a campground, sports facilities, salt fields, etc., and is a roadside station stocked with Kitaura’s special products.
Saigo Takamori Inn Site Museum
This is the house where Saigo Takamori’s army, who suffered a crushing defeat in the decisive battle of 3,000 Satsuma troops and 50,000 government troops across Wada (the final battle of the Seinan War), stopped by when fleeing to Kitagawa, and has been converted into a museum
. In addition, personal items belonging to Ryusei and war materials are on display.
Naito Memorial Museum
Valuable materials that show the history of Nobeoka, from earthenware from the Pre-Pottery period to 66 Noh masks, calligraphy, and paintings donated by the Naito family that were given the title of “Tenkaichi,” as well as everyday tools from the Taisho and Showa periods. is on display.
Ayu-yana
Ayu-yana, a traditional fishing method that has been used for over 300 years, is strung across the Gokase River from October to early December. You can enjoy salt-grilled and miso-grilled sweetfish with roe, and the scent of sweetfish that spreads across the riverbank has been selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment’s “100 Best Scented Landscapes.”
Nobeoka Botanical Garden
Seasonal flowers bloom throughout the year, such as rape blossoms in spring and cosmos in fall. The large park has a tropical botanical garden, walking trails, athletics, and an observation deck. Kyushu University of Health and Welfare is located nearby.
Mukabakiyama
At an altitude of 831m, it consists of Mt. Odake and Mt. Medake, and the 77m waterfall that falls between the two peaks has been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls. Other attractions include Mt. Hiei, a famous place for rock climbing, and Mt. Okure, which has an altitude of 1,644m.
